What the state requires

YES, embedded. All students must complete a 1-Carnegie-unit College- and Career-Readiness (CCR) course to graduate, and personal finance is a REQUIRED COMPONENT of that course (MDE: students must take 'at least one semester of personal finance (embedded in the College and Career Readiness course)' before graduating). No separately required standalone personal finance credit was verified as in effect today.

Class of 2022 - the 2025 Mississippi CCR Course Standards state the course is 'required for the graduating class of 2022 and beyond.' MDE states the requirement began with the cohort entering in 2018-2019 (the 9th-grade class that became the Class of 2022).

EMBEDDED, not standalone: financial literacy is UNIT 6 of the 9-unit CCR course standards. The CCR requirement may also be satisfied through approved SUBSTITUTIONS (CTE Work-Based Learning, Dual Credit SmartStart, JROTC III/IV, AP Capstone, IB/Cambridge, MS CCR Seminar), and may be scheduled senior year only, junior year only, split, or as 1/4 unit per year from grade 9.sos.ms.gov

State-mandated assessment

NONE for personal finance. Mississippi's Subject Area Testing Program requires only four EOC tests for graduation: Algebra I, Biology I, English II, and U.S. History from 1877.mdek12.org
