LOCAL CONTROL. The State Board sets only minimum credits and requires the chief school administrator to develop a district graduation plan approved by the local board, so any personal finance course, embedding, or credit is a DISTRICT decision. Standards-level coverage is statewide via the social studies standards adopted by reference in regulation.education.alaska.gov

Who may teach it

No course-specific certification rule exists because no state finance course is required; teachers hold an Alaska teaching certificate with endorsements issued by DEED Teacher Certification. DEED's available endorsement list includes Business Education, Business Communication, Marketing, Economics, Family/Consumer Science, Social Studies and Government - any of which a district could assign to a locally offered personal finance course.education.alaska.gov
